Web Design in the Past

Web design, and its associated terms, encapsulate everything having to do with things being designed on the Internet. This began in a period where the technology was slightly less complex, the 1960s. It started out that only people who served in the higher ranks of the United States military could operate the Internet, or take part in Web Design – the latter of which was usually reserved for people with a specific discipline in learning its tenets. Special utilities and functions were designed in order to exchange pertinent information and data between military computers and government computers.

It was not until 1969 that Internet language (the programming codes and snippets used for Webdesign creations) was conceived
. Using these technologies and adding on to them, email (electronic mail) was created in 1972. This changed and revolutionized the outlook of the technology and the implemented design.

Web Design in the Present

Website Design

Web design was minimal in its earliest incarnations. As time progressed, and new programming languages were developed, things like HTML (HyperText Markup Language) became more flexible and complex, allowing users to add things to websites like transposed images and tables (digital separators with columns and rows). CSS (Cascading Style Sheets) came soon after. With these new technologies underway, the first browser came into being, which opened up a graphical method in which user and Web designer alike could expand their horizons. It was around this time that the business for a Web design company – the National Center for Supercomputing Applications – designed Mosaic, a predecessor to things like Internet Explorer, Mozilla Firefox, Google Chrome, and many others.

Sometime after 1995, one of the first companies, Amazon.com, was established, which allowed for technological transactions for goods. Technologies were invented to integrate into website databases, things like PHP, ColdFusion and JSP. CSS was already prominent by this point, so users were offered even easier methods on how to create a website. The final inclusion came in 1996, when a company known as Macromedia introduced a program known as Flash. This allowed for animations and things of that nature. Flash was expanded with the introduction of JavaScript, technology that allowed a full developmental tool for presentations, and the world of website designing was turned on its head.

Web Design in the Future

Web design is a growing market, and as new technologies are developed, it will remain that way. As long as the Internet is a free and open outlet for individuals to share their ideas and knowledge about the world, there will always be a market for these types of things. The projected Web designer salary is very handsome for this reason, as regular users, business users, and even government users request the service every day.

With the expansion of technology comes more opportunities for programmers and developers to create better things, and there is no better example than with the Internet. In short, website design is something that is important to everyone who use the service. Everyone who is reading this. And indeed, everyone who will read websites like this one in their lifetimes.
